Groundwork San Diego – Chollas Creek has hosted interns from San Diego State University, Cuyamaca College, University of California San Diego, University of California Los Angeles and Cal Poly Pomona. Students come from a variety of disciplines, and work with Groundwork San Diego staff. They learn first-hand the importance of collaboration with public and private community partners.

The following internship opportunities are currently offered. Students are also encouraged to propose projects according to their special interests.

Habitat Restoration and Planning Intern: Assist in the vegetation and wildlife monitoring of Radio Canyon in Encanto, one of the most diverse open space areas in the Chollas Creek Watershed. In partnership with City of San Diego Parks and Recreation Open Space Division, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, USGS, and San Diego Unified, Groundwork is maintaining, monitoring, and diversifying 12.16 acres of recently-created habitat; vegetate 4.69 acres of recently cleared and treated habitat; and clearing and preparing for long-term community stewardship an additional 2.63 disturbed acres.

Communications Intern: Assist in the maintenance of the website; write and schedule eblasts; develop and implement traditional and social media efforts; participate in the development of an organizational strategic plan.Interns receive mileage; hours are flexible (minimum 10 hours per week); Upper division or graduate status required.  Please submit resume, cover letter and three references to: Leslie@groundworksandiego.org
